Three lit white candles in a row

The Five-Minute Self-Care Routine For When That's All You've Got

Most self-care advice assumes you've got a spare hour, a candle collection and nowhere else to be. Realistically, most days you've got five minutes between the school run and a Zoom call, or the ten minutes before bed when you're deciding between skincare and just falling asleep in your makeup. So here's a routine built for that version of the day — five minutes, four steps, and nothing you have to think too hard about.

Minute One: Wake Up Your Skin

HotChi Run The Show facial oil

Before you touch anything else, press two or three drops of a facial oil into damp skin. We reach for Run The Show on busy mornings — it balances oily patches while the scent does something to clear the mental fog before the day's even started. Warm it between your palms first so it sinks in rather than sitting on top.

Minutes Two and Three: The Faster Shower

Salt + Steam French Press body scrub

You don't need a long shower for this bit to count — just a warm one. Buff a handful of French Press over damp skin, focusing on elbows, knees and anywhere that's gone a bit dry. It's a genuinely two-birds job: it wakes you up properly and takes the rough edges off in the same sixty seconds.

Minute Four: Smooth, Don't Style

Moroccanoil Treatment Original

Skip the full blow-dry routine and just work one or two pumps of Moroccanoil Treatment Original through towel-dried lengths and ends. It won't fix a bad hair day on its own, but it takes the frizz and the "did I even brush this" look off the table, and it works whether you're leaving it to air-dry or blasting it in thirty seconds flat.

Minute Five: Lock It In

Salt + Steam Rose Tinted body butter

Last step, and the one people skip: while your skin's still slightly damp, warm a small amount of Rose Tinted body butter between your hands and smooth it over arms and legs. The solid-to-melt texture means it sinks in fast rather than sitting there, so you're not standing around waiting to get dressed.

The Point Isn't Perfection

None of this is about doing skincare or haircare properly — it's about doing something. Some days that five minutes stretches into ten because you've actually got the time; other days you'll get through steps one and three before the day pulls you away, and that's fine too. The order matters less than the fact that you did it at all.
